Keynote: The Language of Learning: engagement from push to pull
We're excited to welcome back Matt Johnson, Managing Director of City & Guilds Kineo and crowd-favourite, to present the day's keynote where he will discuss:
Who’s in control of learning and development? Who *should* be in control? If we’re telling learners that they should take responsibility for their own development, why does the L&D team continue to manage how, when and what is delivered? From enhancing engagement by capitalising on the ‘social wave’, to understanding the neuroscience of building memories, Matt takes a look at the push-and-pull of learner engagement. Will we have to do a Doctor Dolittle and learn a different language of learning?
Catch Matt's keynote at 9.10 – 9.40 Room: 105 – 106
Award-winners in Action

Riding the Social Wave
Would you like your learners to find learning opportunities for themselves? If so, then the ‘Social Wave’ is a method of increasing uptake through socialisation, which recent research suggests is responsible for 68% of variance in users’ frequency of performing self-regulated learning. This means that when learners are able to see the learning activities of their colleagues and updates around their goals, they’re more likely to join in and learn more. Hear our top five tips to increasing engagement with your learning and learning platforms, drawing inspiration from both Vodafone and ASADA and how they used the ‘Social Wave’ to increase the tide of learners engaging with their learning platforms.
James Ballard will discuss the 'Social Wave' during our lunchtime expo session 1:45 - 2:00pm at Stand 2.
See What We've Been Up to the Past Year
Kineo will also be demoing the Drug Free Sport New Zealand Adapt course and Totara LMS portal during the event alongside other recent custom, multi-device, blended and rapid projects that we've designed and developed in the past year, including our award-winning programmes. We'll be also showing our latest Totara Learning Management Systems, 'social wave' learning and responsive theming we've implemented for our clients.
