Richard Brunton Interview |
|
By day, Richard Brunton looks at the future of e-learning inside a major international financial services organisation. By night (well, one night), he tells Kineo what it's like.
Richard works in e-learning in one of the biggest banks in the world. He'd rather not say which one as that might really be saying too much. We had a broad conversation ranging from the technical (what is an information aggregator) to the very practical (how do you get people to use a blog?)
You can listen to clips from the conversation by clicking play below. If you want to download the audio, use the links. Download times vary; approximately 20 seconds per clip on a broadband connection. Some of these clips are a little longer than usual so please be patient while letting them load here, or downloading.
Part 1: Web 2.0? Spare me.In which we discuss...
why listening to commentators is not always a good thing Digg and del.icio.us are good things though Minor rant 1: Why web 2.0 means nothing Why blogs and wikis are scary to an organisation What a week in the life of an e-learning futurist is like The value of hype (7 min 18 secs)
Part 2: Want ROI? Use free stuff.Piloting and experimenting and justifing it. You’ve got to have faith… Sometimes things die: chronology of a failed wiki Structuring unstructured learning and releasing control. (4 mins)
Part 3: If they're enjoying it, it can't be learning...An audio learning experiment for salespeople: fear, uncertainty and free iPods. What is it about the iPod? Stop obsessing, people... Device independence is key. (3 minutes 31 seconds)
Part 4: Blogging: It's not about "tonight I had some chips.."...unless you work at McDonalds, of course Corporate blogs: what are they for? Minor rant 2: Let's fix the intranet Blogging as knowledge management Don't let that consultant leave without blogging. (5 mins 19 seconds)
Part 5: The hunt for information aggregators(Technical, but worth it...) What is it? How do they work? Why do you want one? Minor rant 3: Has everyone forgotten about Opera? Why is google desktop not enough? (10 minutes 18 seconds)
