Topps Tiles, a City & Guilds Kineo customer, recently won the 2014 Adult Learners' Week National Employer Award for commitment to learning and development of their employees.
Topps Tiles have 330 stores across the UK and 1400 retail colleagues. Since bringing their learning and development in house and becoming a City & Guilds approved centre, they have put over 700 people through qualifications.
Laura Morris, the Training and Qualifications Manager at Topps Tiles said: "Amongst the qualified colleagues that we've got our retention is 10% higher. But also the big thing for us is how it impacts on people's personal lives as well. So I get lots of feedback, particularly with the English and Maths, where older people who have been out of it for a while, how much confidence that's given them in store working out people's measurements, but also on a personal level helping the kids with their homework for example.Kristian, a Topps Tiles Customer Adviser said "We are here to advise. With regards to tiles I knew literally nothing. At the minute I've just completed my Level 2 Apprenticeship in Retail. Obviously, it boosts your confidence and you say, 'Look, I've got this...' so you know you're doing your job right.
