My Apprenticeship: A Stepping Stone to the Future

Well that's a wrap folks! I've finished my apprenticeship as a Marketing Apprentice at City & Guilds Kineo. And boy have I learnt a lot in just one year.

Let’s Recap

This time last year I was applying for apprenticeship programmes; I had no idea what I wanted to do and had no work experience behind me. One year later I have finished my apprenticeship programme, have valuable work experience and have met some really inspirational people along the way.

If you have read my first post you would know that I came into the team with little marketing experience, and to say I was nervous would be a huge understatement. Yes, I have sometimes felt out of my depth and a little unsure of what to do, but the support from the team has never been far away. This experience, support and mentoring has allowed me to truly ‘get stuck in’ to the marketing world. It has made me realise marketing is something I enjoy and more importantly it's something I am really excited to study further.

What’s Next?

I am now at the stage where I am making the transition from apprentice to full time employee, and I am so excited to say that as of the 12th October I will be walking into the office as the City & Guilds Kineo Marketing Coordinator.

This next step highlights for me just how brilliant apprenticeships are for young people, and the opportunities that come from completing one. I am so excited about this next step and to think it would never have been possible if I hadn't made the decision to not go to university and to pursue this route. I have finished this year with a heap of marketing experience, an exciting new job and most importantly I haven't had to get into loads of debt in the process!

In just one year I feel that my confidence in myself and my abilities has grown tenfold. From the training courses, teambuilding days and a year of working within the organisation I know I am ready to take on the new challenges that the Marketing Coordinator role will present me with.

And Now To Your Future

For anyone thinking about the apprenticeship route I would definitely say look in to it. Through projects such as apprenticeship connect and the appreticeship4england debate I have had the chance to speak to young people who are at the crucial stage of deciding 'what next'. And when they have asked me if I would do an apprenticeship again I have said absolutely! This apprenticeship experience has set the foundations for my future career and I am so excited to see where it takes me.

I hope by sharing my experiences I have inspired businesses to take on apprentices and help develop the next generation of employees.
