Following rigorous no-notice inspection of the teaching standards and experiences of apprentices at RAF training schools and operational units, Ofsted have awarded the RAF with an ‘outstanding’ for their engineering apprenticeship programmes.
The apprenticeship programme has been recognised for the world class training it provides, which helps to support the young men and women who will make up the RAF of tomorrow. RAF Cosford, the home of RAF engineering, was one of the leading locations for the Ofsted inspection and annually trains more than half of the services with 2400 apprentices, with 95% of those completing a City & Guilds apprenticeship.
Ofsted have graded the RAF with the highest award possible and have highlighted the quality of training that their apprentices are receiving. Apprenticeships are an alternative route to purely academic education, and the RAF are one of the driving institutions showing the opportunities apprenticeships can offer young people.
With the RAF moving up from a Grade 2 to an “outstanding” Grade 1 it is safe to say that the hard work from all involved has really paid off. We hope this continues with more and more apprentices joining their team.
