Editor's note: Hi, It’s the eve of HRD, one of the major Learning and Development conferences in the calendar. CIPD, the event organisers, in a report to be launched at the conference will announce that the spend on learning per employee in the UK is down 23% from last year. So we suspect the question on most people’s minds at this year’s conference is how can we be more efficient with a reduced budget – how can we get more for less? To help answer that question, we’ve focused on efficiency as our theme this month. Mark Harrison’s latest insight report is all about efficiency in learning. We look at some of the big ideas, from Blink to Gershon, that might get you thinking about efficient learning experiences in your organisations. We also talk to some industry experts and learn what efficiency has meant to them. One very efficient thing you can do if you’re coming to HRD is stop in for a drink on Kineo. We’re hosting drinks at the Hilton Olympia, a three minute walk from HRD, on Wednesday 5th April from 5.30 to 6.30. It’d be great to see you there! If you have ideas for future articles or newsletters, I love to hear from you. E-mail me at newsletter@kineo.com . Best, Stephen 1. Insight Briefing: Learning Strategy Master Plan Part 3: Making Learning Efficient Kineo’s Mark Harrison was recently part of a consultation process with members of the ASTD global network. They explored what successful learning organizations have in common. Four traits emerged. So far we’ve published free insight reports on alignment and effectiveness. This month, Mark explores what it takes to make your learning efficient. Look out for the final report in the series next month. Check out our learning strategy thoughts here. 2. Audio Interviews: Laura Overton and Richard Brunton
Not one but two interviews this month. We’re just trying to be efficient…
Laura Overton is the Skills for Network e-learning champion. She has 17 years experience in the e-learning and distance learning industry, and in her interview she talks alignment, shares case studies of successful learning organisations – and explains why learning professionals need to be bilingual …
Richard Brunton has his eye on the future of e-learning inside one of the world’s largest financial services organisations. Richard had plenty to say about which e-learning tools and ideas are effective and here to say – and even more to say about which ones aren’t… Hear what they both had to say here. 3. Age 2006: Are You Ready? Kineo Launches E-learning Product Now that the new Employment Equality (Age) Regulations are set to come into force in October, we all need to act quickly to ensure we’ve effectively trained our staff on their obligations. To help, Kineo has produced a 40 minute e-learning programme designed to make all staff aware of the new Age Regulations 2006. The programme, fully hosted by Kineo, provides a very cost effective way to deliver age awareness training. You can learn more at here. If you’d like to see a demonstration, contact Steve Rayson at steve.rayson@kineo.com 4. Big ideas: Efficiency in Learning We all want more for less – for ourselves, for our learners. How to get it? We examine some new thinking on efficiency, from “Blink”, to Life Hacks, and (perhaps a little more soberly) the Gershon report – and try to figure out what these ideas could mean for efficiency in learning. Read about the ideas here.
5. E-learning Market Update So what’s been happening in the e-learning market in the past few months? Steve Rayson shares his personal views in our latest market update. It might make for a useful scorecard as you walk the hall at HRD. More mergers? Check. Everyone’s talking about rapid e-learning? Check. Prices dropping? Hmm... Read our full market update here: |
