Editor's note:

Hi,

If you’re reading this, your summer break is probably over. Hope you caught up on your reading. Hope you stopped working for a bit too. No fear at Kineo…

We’ve been reading up on what Harvard Business School can tell us about learning, and looking at a new Becta report on the effectiveness of e-learning that seems to turn some earlier research by CIPD on its head.

One of the key points is these pieces is how learning can play a role in change. How are you going to change things in your organization with learning as we head into the last third of 2008? You can start by finding the right changes to make. Our free guide on rapidly identifying training needs can help you kickstart changes in September.

Hope you’ve enjoyed a good break this summer and you’re looking forward to changing things with learning as much as we are.

Best,

Stephen

1. Free guide: How to rapidly identify training needs

Responsible for learning in your organisaton? Then you’re responsible for change. So what needs changing? How do you know you’ve focused on the issues where learning will make the most impact? Our free guide on how to rapidly identify training needs shows how to pinpoint the areas of pain, and prioritise them.

2. Article review: What Harvard Business School can tell us about learning

Our holiday reading list is a little…specialised, shall we say. Steve Rayson headed to France with a copy of the latest Harvard Business Review under his arm. He’s return with some insights on how learning can play a key role in organizational change – good old Kotter’s still on the money.

3. Kineo 50: What’s the story with e-learning?

The E-learning Centre gets thousands of visitors every day, hungry for information and advice about e-learning. Would we write a weekly piece, with 50 e-learning insights, they asked us? Why not. The Kineo 50 insights are short pieces about e-learning, in no particular order. The first one’s about the role of stories in learning. Keep an eye out for a new insight every week in September (and October, and November, etc...)

4. Market update: Looking good for next generation learners

A few months ago we shared some views on a terse report from CIPD on e-learning’s effectiveness. This month, Becta (the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) has published a report with some very different findings on next generation learners. Are we seeing a generation gap? Who’s out of touch?

5. Webinar invite: We’re talking Moodle in September

Had enough reading? Then let’s talk. On September 25th we are running a webinar in conjunction with the Learning and Skills Group. The focus is on Moodle, the open source LMS that has rapidly become the dominant player in open source LMS. Its commercial potential is huge – as Kineo we’ve provided moodle for organisations including Marks & Spencer, Cable&Wireless and others. If you want to learn about how it’s worked for them, join us on the 25th.
