Kineo Newsletter Audio interview: Don Taylor on making e-learning happen Hi, We know you’re either winding down, or gearing up (or both) as Christmas looms, so we won’t cut into your shopping time too much. We’ve got a new interview with e-learning expert Don Taylor, which you can enjoy on your iPod as you stand in the queues. We’ve brought back some insights from Berlin, though we didn’t make it to the Christmas market. And we’re giving something back too through our pro bono work with Great Ormond Street Hospital. Have a great Christmas from all of us at Kineo. Best,
Don Taylor is the Chair of Learning Technologies Conference, and has been around e-learning for longer than many. We caught up with him in advance of the January 2009 Learning Technologies show to ask a few timely questions about implementing e-learning as part of our ongoing guru series. Don’t forget that Learning Technologies is coming up on January 28th and 29th in London. We’ll have a full preview in January. If you go to one e-learning show this has to be the one. Hope to see you there. 2. View from Berlin: Online Educa show review Earlier this month, Steve Rayson went to the Online Educa show in Berlin. His mission: Present Kineo’s approach to product knowledge e-learning – more on that next month. His other mission: bring back some findings from the other sessions. He shares what he found out here. 3. Tool review: Dokeos LMS At Online Educa, there was much talk of Moodle. To buck the trend this month, we’ve had a look with one of the other impressive open source LMS tools out there – Dokeos. It’s got some nice features which make it well worth a look. See what we made of it, and log in to our test area to have a play with it. Read the review here. 4. Top tips: Have I got your attention? We’ve been sharing a top tip for e-learning every week, and recently we’ve been looking at how to get and hold learners’ attention in e-learning. There’s more than one way to do it. But you better make sure you do it… 5. Market update: Ideas are the new growth sector There was an interesting article in the Financial Times recently which suggests that the long term effects of a recession can be very positive on work and working habits because they give rise to innovation. This month we ask if we will see this effect in the e-learning market. Get ready for the ideas boom… 6. Kineo giving project: Great Ormond Street Hospital We say it enough – you are what you share. And we really look to live up to that, at this time of year especially. Each year Kineo undertakes a pro bono project to give something back to the community. This year we’re privileged to partner with Children First for Health from Great Ormond Street Hospital. We will be producing a fun and engaging e-learning programme that helps encourage 11-16 year olds to reach a target of an hour per day of moderate exercise. It is planned to be available in June on their Children First for Health website and available for schools to use within the National Curriculum. Kineo has been very active in the sports and health sectors this year and so we are really looking forward to using this experience on this exciting project, and helping with this very worthy initiative. |
