Editor's note:

Hi,

July’s a time for relaxing. And that’s just what we’ve been doing, slowing down, taking it easy - in theory. We must have missed the memo…

This month, we’re delighted to announce the launch of a new company as part of the Kineo family: Kineo Open Source. To celebrate its launch, we’re giving you some beach reading too, with a free guide on how to save with open source. And we’ve been doing some decorating, with a revamped Kineo site.

With tool reviews, case studies, market updates and more, there’s no let -up this summer from us. Enjoy your break if you’re taking one.

Best,
Stephen

1. New company: Kineo Open Source is launched

Regular readers know how we feel about open source: passionate, in a word. Since we started Kineo, we’ve seen huge increase in demand for open source tools. So much so that we’re delighted to announce the launch of a new company in the Kineo family: Kineo Open Source.

Kineo Open Source has a simple goal: to help organizations of all sizes to get the benefits of open source tools without any hassle. Kineo Open Source aims to become a leading provider of professional open source solutions and services, known as much for outstanding customer focus as for developer community focus.

If you’re keen to explore how open source tools can reduce costs for your organization in areas including learning management, website development and CRM, Kineo Open Source brings the fresh thinking and smart approach you’ve come to expect from us.

2. Free guide: five ways to save with open source

To launch Kineo Open Source as we mean to go on, we’ve written a new guide on five ways that open source tools can slash costs and improve productivity in any organization. If open source still seems like geek territory, let this be your insider guide. It’s free (erm, of course) and available now here:

 3. New look: Kineo site revamped

Designing and launching the new Kineo Open Source site gave us what’s known in technical circles as site envy. Not to be outdone by, well, ourselves, we’ve revamped and re-launched the Kineo website with a fresh look and feel. Hope you like – let us know.

4. Case study: rapid e-learning at HSBC

We like sharing our clients’ success stories with rapid e-learning. HSBC is one we’re really proud of. The world’s local bank became very local to us as the Kineo team descended on HSBC’s offices to work side-by-side with the HSBC experts at a dizzying pace. The result? 30 hours of e-learning and blended solutions, in two months. Find out how we did it here:

5. Tool review: Dimdim for a chinwag

We like to talk – and yes we know it shows….. We’re always looking for good (and free) telephony and conferencing tools and we’ve been looking a handy little tool that makes conferencing nice and easy. It’s called Dimdim. Not sure about the name, but bright idea, though.

See how we got on with Dimdim here:

6. Market update: doom or boom?

Let’s not mention the ‘r’ word - it’s just going to upset everyone. But is it possible that e-learning doesn’t play by the economic rules, and is actually going to grow during a downturn? Steve Rayson, ever the optimist, considers the evidence.
