>> Editor's note:

Hi,

It may feel like the lazy days of summer, but in fact there’s a gathering storm. The era of three month timelines for e-learning are coming to an end. It’s time to pick up the pace. It’s time to talk seriously about rapid e-learning. That’s our focus this month at Kineo.

Our new briefing explains the opportunities and challenges that come with rapid e-learning. We share our e-learning authoring tool survey findings which reveal which tools are driving rapid e-learning, and we test drive one of those tools. We interview Jay Cross, the man who coined the term e-learning, for his views on where we are headed.

We want to set a new standard. We calling for a 21 day benchmark for e-learning. Kineo will shortly announce a new model to help you do it without compromising on quality. Watch this space – or better yet, explore the Kineo website and find out why our growing client list now includes six FTSE 100 companies.

If you have ideas for future newsletters, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at newsletter@kineo.com

Best,
Stephen

>> 1. Briefing: Rapid E-learning

New to rapid e-learning? Start here. In this month’s briefing, Matt Fox explains the concept and practicalities, and examines what works and what doesn’t in rapid e-learning. You can read it online or download it at rapid e-learning briefing.

>> 2. Survey Results: Rapid Authoring Tools

Thanks to everyone who participated in our June survey on rapid authoring tools. We had over 70 respondents, and the results make for fascinating reading. They tell us which tools are starting to look like winners, which factors really matter in choosing a tool, and what the next generation of tools needs to do to meet rapid e-learning authors’ demands.

>> 3. Authoring Tool E-learning Road Test: Articulate

Our survey showed that rapid e-learning requires tools that can handle the corners. In the coming months, Kineo will put a range of rapid authoring tools to the test. Articulate was mentioned by many respondents to our survey. This month, Steve Rayson puts it through its paces. You can read his report card here:

>> 4. Audio Interview: Jay Cross

He invented the term ‘e-learning’. For most people, that’s enough. Not for Jay Cross: he’s just getting started. In advance of his major new book on informal learning, we caught up with him in to find out where it’s all headed and check (via skype and webcam) the weather in Jay’s back yard. For a brief moment, it was nicer in England than California…

>> 5. New Survey: Absence Management with IES

Kineo and the Institute for Employment Studies are partnering to develop a major new e-learning initiative on absence management to support line managers. To ensure it pinpoints the right issues, we’ve launched a joint survey with IES to examine attitudes and training in the area of absence management. We’re inviting HR professionals globally to participate. All participants in the survey will be provided with its results.

You can participate in the survey by going to:

>> 6. E-learning Market Update

This month, Steve Rayson reviews the impact that the increase in rapid e-learning is having on the e-learning market. If you run a large production company and don’t want to see the score, you might want to look away now…

>> 7. Age 2006: An Interactive Briefing

It’s now less than 80 days until October 1st, the date on which Employment Equality (Age) Regulations will make it unlawful to discriminate against workers, employees, job seekers and trainees because of their age. If you’re an employer, you need to take action. Kineo can help. We have produced a set of resources including a 30 minute e-learning module to help organisations prepare for the new Age Regulations.

The Home Office, BUPA, Citizens Advice Bureau and others have chosen Kineo’s Age Awareness solution. See why by reviewing this short interactive briefing:
