Editor's note:

Hi,

If you’re responsible for training in your organisation, I bet you’ve been asked the question: “If you build it, will they come?” This month, we look at it another perspective: Now you’ve built it, will they stay?

Our theme this month is sustainable learning. Mark Harrison makes it the fourth part of his learning strategy master plan. We hear about the tactics for sustaining learning used in Barclays. And we examine how stories are perhaps the oldest and best tool for sustained learning.

Can we talk ourselves up for a minute? Kevin Kruse, the “E-learning Guru”, had this to say about us recently:

“I love the guys at Kineo. They put out so much fun, interesting, provocative stuff that browsing their website feels like drinking from a fire hose…love it.”

Thanks Kevin. Get that fire hose sensation (even during a hosepipe ban in the south east) by exploring the site.

If you have ideas for future newsletters, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at newsletter@kineo.com

Best,
Stephen

>> 1. Insight Briefing: Learning Strategy Master Plan Part 4: Sustainable Learning

Over the past few months, Kineo’s Mark Harrison has been delivering focused advice on how to assemble a master plan for your learning strategy. This month, he provides the final piece of the puzzle – ensuring that the learning you create is sustainable. Mark’s insight briefing includes seven steps for sustaining learning and a detailed checklist for each.

Read our learning strategy tips.

>> 2. Big ideas: Trends towards Storytelling

Is there anything more sustainable than a story well told? They survive generations and convey meaning better than many an e-learning course. We’re noticing a trend towards more overt storytelling in learning. We think that’s a good thing.

-------------------------------------------------

>> 3. Audio Interviews: Sustainable Learning at Barclays

Speaking of stories, here’s a short one: Big organisation needs to create sustainable learning community for their leaders. Realises it must be sustainable. John Rogers makes sure it is. The end. A mini adventure, from Kineo…

In this month’s audio interview, you can John Rogers, former head of Barclays University Business School on how to make your learning sustainable, why e-learning is like comfort food, and the disintermediation of learning

-------------------------------------------------

>> 4. Kineo Survey: Rapid Authoring Tools

Over 30% of organisations in the UK are creating some e-learning in-house. As that figure rises, we thought it’d be interesting to pause and reflect on your experiences with the range of rapid authoring tools that purport to make rapid authoring straightforward. Is there a best-in-class? Are the tool companies giving you enough flexibility? Is rapid authoring working as it should?

Answer these questions and more by participating in our survey. It will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. All participants will be given access to the full survey findings.

>> 5. E-learning Market Update

Typically the dog days of summer are associated with a dog of a sales pipeline for e-learning companies. This summer is shaping up very differently. An unusually high degree of contract awards is underway, and avid market watcher Steve Rayson has taken his eye off the football for just long enough to bring you the edited highlights in this month’s market update.

>> 6. Age 2006: An Interactive Briefing

It’s getting ever closer to October 1st, the date on which Employment Equality (Age) Regulations will make it unlawful to discriminate against workers, employees, job seekers and trainees because of their age. If you’re an employer, you need to take action. Kineo can help. We have produced a set of resources including a 30 minute e-learning module to help organisations prepare for the new Age Regulations.
