>> Editor's note:

Hi,

As spring turns to summer, we look at what could be blossoming this year in the e-learning world. As part of our spring bouquet, we offer not one but two free briefings this month.

Everyone’s talking about web 2.0. But what about e-learning 2.0? Fact or fad? Stick your future- gazing goggles on and find out what it is, and what its impact could be in our first briefing.

‘Learner support reviewed’ is our second briefing. Part of the UfI/Kineo series, it’s packed with practical tips and examples of learning support to go with, you guessed it, learning 2.0.

Also this month a special focus on the US. We welcome Margaret Kelsey, our US based correspondent, who brings her insights on informal learning and what learning professionals should be doing about it. And Gabe Anderson, Articulate’s advocate of all things rapid, gives us his take on the future of rapid e-learning.

If you have ideas for future newsletters, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at:

Best,
Stephen

>> 1. Free Briefing: E-learning 2.0
Blogs; Wikis; Podcasts; MySpace; Facebook; e-learning…. Spot the odd one out? With an eye on the shift away from broadcast content providers to ‘consumers as creators’, Steve Rayson takes a look at the 2.0 hype and what it means for e-learning. Should he have put his thinking in a Wiki instead? You decide…

>> 2. Free Briefing: Learner Support Reviewed
Our UFI/Kineo good practice guide focuses this month on learner support. What is it and why bother? What’s a model that works? How are organizations using it? Find out in this practical briefing.

>> 3. Audio: Gabe Anderson, Director of Customer Support at Articulate

We believe that Articulate is one of the leaders in the field of PowerPoint based authoring tools, so we thought it was high time we hooked up and celebrated a special relationship. In this month’s audio, we get Gabe Anderson’s take on the future of rapid e-learning. He tells us the future is bright and not necessarily PowerPoint shaped….

>> 4. Hand in hand: Formal + Informal

You say eLearning we say e-learning? Are we miles apart? Our US based colleague Margaret Kelsey says it ain’t necessarily so as she assesses the impact informal learning is making on e-learning design on her side of the pond.
