>> Editor's note
It's officially the run-in. Whether you're trying to get your learning projects finished (or started) before the end of 2011, we know you're going to be busy for what's left of the year. Here at Kineo we've been busy too, getting our new Totara Open Source LMS ready to share with you in advance of the official launch in January. Next week, it's time to open it up to you. Come and join us for one of our webinars – more details below.
We're also delighted to announce our two early Christmas presents – we were honoured to receive two awards at the E-Learning Age Awards in London in November. Our M&S Café Service Project won gold for Best E-Learning Project – Private Sector and our very own Mark Harrison won the Outstanding Achievement award. We're delighted for M&S – and proud of Mark!
We'd also like to pay tribute to Hanif Sazen, whose sudden death last month shocked and saddened the whole e-learning industry. We had the privilege to know Hanif and work with him at Saffron, and we will greatly miss his warm personality and professional contributions to our field. Our deepest sympathies to his family and all at Saffron.
Whatever's on your task list between now and Christmas, we hope you get through the last few items and are able to spend time with your loved ones. From all of us here to you, have a peaceful Christmas and we'll see you in 2012.
Stephen

1. Totara Open Source LMS: Sign up
Last month we announced that along with our partners, Catalyst IT and Flexible Learning Network (now Kineo Pacific), we're launching Totara LMS officially in January 2011.
Totara is a new kind of LMS for business. It's a distribution of Moodle, the world's leading open source LMS, so you know it's built on a great foundation and is designed specifically to meet the needs of corporates. Totara is fully open source, with no licence fees and is available on an annual subscription basis for support, updates and patches.
To give you a first look at Totara, we're running a series of webinars in December on the 15th, 16th and 21st. You can sign up for the one that suits you, at www.totaralms.com/demo.
We are also after Totara Partners, who can support and implement Totara around the world. If you are an e-learning company become a Totara Partner to offer your clients a leading open source learning platform; and extend both your services and revenue opportunities. We are keen to help companies to grow their services and revenues through being a Totara Partner. Find out more here.
We'll be officially launching Totara LMS at Learning Technologies in London – so come and join us at stand 64.
2. Case study: Bacardi – Social Responsibility
We've been collaborating with the great at Bacardi to develop an e-learning solution for the marketing team in the topic of social responsibility. It's given the opportunity to take an innovative approach which we're sharing with you in this month's case study. Enjoy it – responsibly, of course..
3. Tool review: Captivate 5
Adobe recently launched Captivate 5. We've been using Captivate for a long time, and we've been doing some work with Captivate 5. Find out what we think here.
4. Top tips: Three tips for Christmas!
Christmas. It's a time for sharing tips and advice aplently. Well, so is every other month. But let's not get bogged down in details. Get stuck into our three Christmas tips here.
5. Market updates: Learning Light report
As we enter the last month of 2010, two new reports on the e-learning market have been published, one from the American Society of Training & Development and the other from the UK’s Learning Light. We break away from our shopping to read both. Get the headlines here.
6. Moodle update: Professional associations workshop write-up
This week we run a workshop for professional associates in London. It was great to see many different professional bodies there and we're grateful to our client, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, for hosting the event. There were lots of case studies and great ideas about getting the most out of Moodle for professional associations. We share all the findings here.
7. Kineo news: E-Learning Age Awards; Learning Technologies preview; Now hiring
Plenty more action in Kineo towers this month:
E-Learning Age Awards – the doppel-fest
We came in our finest black ties and party dresses (some of them fresh out of cold storage from last year) to the E-Learning Age Awards dinner in London's ever-glittering West End in November. It was a great event as always. We were delighted to come home with two awards. Our collaboration with M&S took home gold for best e-learning project in the private sector (well M&S took home the award – just as well, we would have left it on the train). Mark Harrison was garlanded with the award for outstanding achievement in e-learning – he hasn't let it go to his head, but it's only been a few weeks. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees – there's a lot of great work being done out there and we're glad to be part of it.
Learning Technologies 2011 preview
It's nearly that time again – join us at Learning Technologies 2011 at the Kensington Olympia on January 26th and 27th. We'll be running free seminars on our award-winning M&S project and results, and of course on our new Totara LMS. More details to follow in our January newsletter. Register now.
