Great to see so many of you out during our collective travels and webinars last month, from Africa to Florida – and in our new London office of course. All that time travelling gave us plenty of opportunity to prepare for this month’s newsletter, which comes with:

  • Some advice on keeping the bling out of your e-learning
  • A new Anti-Bribery e-learning module to help you prepare for the new Act
  • Some great tips and tools from ASTD
  • An invitation to the first European Totara Conference in September

Plenty to read if you’re jetting off for an early summer break this month. Not bringing your laptop away with you? We think that’s a little weird, but you can always check out the mobile version of our site on your preferred device of addiction.

See you next time,

Stephen

1. Kineo Free Guide: Avoiding the trap of ‘clicky-clicky bling-bling’

All that blings is not e-learning gold. Is it really over 400 years since Shakespeare wrote exactly that? No, it isn’t. But you know that’s what he meant. We pick up the theme this month. Cammy Bean, US VP of e-learning Design has written a new paper for E-learn magazine on the topic of glitz over good design. Part one this month explains how to avoid the bling trap. You can read it here.

2. Anti-Bribery E-learning: Act before the Act

Those in the UK will be well aware that the Bribery Act 2010 becomes law on July 1st.  Have you figured out how you’ll train your team? We’ve partnered with a leading law firm to develop a focused and effective module to help you do just that. The module is available in Flash or accessible HTML. You can add it to your LMS or it’s available as a hosted service. It’s a simple but effective way to make sure you’re doing the right thing.

To find out more about it, contact us.

3. Totara European Conference: Sign up for September 28th

Since Totara launched at the start of 2011, Kineo, along with the other founding partners Catalyst and Kineo Pacific, have been delighted with the response. Building on the interest we’ve seen, we’re pleased to announce the first European Conference for Totara LMS customers and potential customers on 28th September 2011 in London.

The conference will bring together Totara partners, customers and potential customers to network, interact and learn from each other. The conference aims to enable learning professionals from across a wide range of industries to discuss and share their experiences. They will also highlight strategies for maximising the value of Totara, the open source LMS for enterprises based on Moodle. The event is free, but space is limited. Find out more and register here.

4. E-learning tools round up: five to watch

We had a great time catching up with people at ASTD last month in Florida. It was interesting to see a few new tools, and updates to current ones on the market. We did a runaround to bring you some highlights. In the next few months we’ll review them in more depth and share our views, but here are some tasters.

5. Top tip: Let your right brain do the design

At last month’s ASTD we spent some time with Michael Allen and his team, which is always fun. His session at ASTD spelled out why you shouldn’t let your left brain drive. We share some insights in this top tip.

6. Market update: Ambient Insight report

Ambient Insight always generates interesting reports. The latest report, on how the self paced e-learning market is showing signs of slowing down, is of interest to all of us in the industry – need to keep an eye on that, not that we can see much slowdown from here… Read the report here.

7. Learning and Skills Group conference: our tweet report

We were too busy to attend the Learning & Skills Group event this week, but just to prove how keen we were to follow the action we decided to do a review via Twitter. We have also provided our top ten tips for those of you tweeting from an event, since most of us spend as much time tweeting from events as we do participating in them. Read our collective retweeting here.

8. Kineo news: New London office, more Kineo Jazz, and now hiring

London. Jazz. You can put ‘swinging’ in front of both. And Kineo, of course.

New London Office

Many of Kineo’s key clients are based in London, so to be closer to them, and to tap into London’s great e-learning talent market, we’re delighted to announce the opening of our new London office. It’s just five minutes from London Bridge, so if you’re in the area, drop in for some tea. That’s what we do in London.  Find out more here.

Kineo Jazz: Saturday 18th June in Brighton

We’re delighted to announce that the legendary Dr Lonnie Smith will be performing at the next Kineo Jazz event at The Basement in Brighton on 18th June 2011.

Dr Lonnie Smith is a legend on the Hammond B3 organ, well known for his funky, passionate playing, who has kept stellar company with the likes of George Benson, Randy Brecker, Lee Morgan, King Curtis, Joe Lovano, Grover Washington Jr., and Dizzy Gillespie. Kineo Jazz is delighted to host the Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio en route to Ronnie Scott’s later in June. Find out more here.

Now hiring

Along with our London growth, our US team is also seeing substantial increase in demand - we’re continuing to grow our team in the UK and the US, and some positions in New Zealand.

We’re looking for passionate, creative, enthusiastic people to join us as:

  • E-learning designers
  • Project managers and coordinators
  • Technical consultants
  • Art directors
  • Jazz saxophonists (not really, but thanks for paying attention)
