Online Portals

The concept of online portals – whether they be learning portals, academies or communities of practice – has developed significantly in recent years. There is a frequent need to provide an online space for groups where they can access learning resources, information, share experience, get latest news and collaborate in a secure online space.

The requirements can include:

  • a fully branded, secure site
  • e-learning launch and track capabilities but the feel of a community website rather than a catalogue
  • an intuitive interface that is easy to use and fully configurable
  • the ability to assign and track all forms of learning resources
  • online collaboration tools including forums, chat rooms, wikis, surveys
  • flexible structure allowing different combinations of user groups to be created, e.g. by job role, location, organisation
  • full management reports to track and evaluate learner progress and performance

A key requirement is the ability to set up a site quickly and cost-effectively whether it be a sales portal, a management academy or a compliance learning zone.

Our approach

We develop and deliver cost-effective, hosted online portal sites through the smart use of open source technologies. Working with our sister company, Kineo Open Source, we often use Moodle LMS as a key platform for an online portal. A platform which can be deployed in less than a week and which has no licence costs and yet is the most functionally rich and easy to use LMS on the market. Moodle easily meets all of the requirements listed above and many more.

We have customised and deployed Moodle for clients such as M&S, BP, Cable&Wireless, Canon, CII and many others.

moodle m&sWe have used Moodle as a platform for online sales academies, partner portals, management academies, compliance portals and full corporate LMS solutions. The image on the right is of a recent design for a Line Manager Performance Portal.

We also use web technologies to front-end existing LMS systems and create tailored portals – which provide seamless access to launch and track content from the LMS, without the learner ever seeing the LMS itself.
