The view from Sheffield

Wendy Weller-Davies, Kineo Sheffield’s Project Director, shares the view from her new office window.

“Kineo Sheffield is up and running! It’s great for us to have a physical presence in such a vibrant city. Sheffield has proven itself to be a hub of technology and learning, so it makes complete sense for Kineo to be here, and we’re really pleased to become part of the community. The office in the Sheffield Technology Parks is open for business, and we’re serving key clients in the North and Midlands. Key among the clients that we serve from the Sheffield office right now are Ufi/learndirect, HBOS and WRAG.

Our first order of business was to do what Kineo always does: provide advice and guidance on new and emerging tools and technologies and what they mean for learning. For free of course: just our way of saying hello.

Our first Rapid E-Learning Seminar was held on 21st February. It was run by Kineo partner Mark Harrison and Wendy Weller-Davies. Participants included interested e-learning parties from organisations including Boots, Astra Zeneca, and Sports Coach UK. What was interesting about this workshop was how much detail the group wanted on how the various rapid e-learning development tools work. They found a lot of value in discussing the pros and cons of different tools, which one is right for which kind of project, and how to make purchasing and design decisions. It was a really interesting session, and we’ll be running another one soon. Get in touch if you’re interested.

At the moment the view from Sheffield is mainly of boxes in the office as we kit out and prepare to welcome our new team members: Anne Holt and James Chetwood as instructional designers, plus Paul Johns and Emma Cooper as developers. So already we’re building a strong core team with lots of e-learning industry experience, and of course that Kineo thing – passion, commitment and flexibility. Well, ok three things…

In addition to our core team, we are adding skills and capacity through a team of university students and graduates in the use of rapid development tools. We’re pleased to be involved in the skills development of these individuals and believe it will add to our capacity and flexibility too.

So, three weeks in and already a healthy list of projects with prestigious clients, and a powerful core team in place: the view from Sheffield is great.”
