August is the cruellest month for the newsletter author. Mass exodus to the beaches means that we can only count on the party faithful and those who become too engrossed in the Olympics to book a holiday.
We reward your loyalty with some new feature news for Totara 2.2, a new way of seeing e-learning design – seeing it RED, that is – and our usual reviews and tips.
Forward it to your colleagues on leave and text them to say they need to check their mail urgently. Everyone loves a surprise.

1. Totara 2.2: Introducing Audience Management
With over 100 clients already using Totara, we’ve worked with the core team to keep the product moving forward. Totara 2.2 has just launched, among its new features is audience management.
What’s audience management? Come and see what it does here…
2. Seeing RED: Responsive E-learning Design: a new way for mobile learning
You’ve probably heard of Responsive Web Design. It’s changed web design. It’s time e-learning design changed to make mobile learning actually work for everyone. Time to see RED. In this month’s market update, we coin a new term and encourage you to see mobile learning differently.
3. Innovating Pedagogy 2012: Ten directions from the OU – any for you?
In case you think that universities in August are whatever the opposite of hives of activities are, the Open University would like to point out that they’re busy as bees in Milton Keynes this summer. How? By releasing a thumping big report of course. It captures 10 ‘innovations that are in currency but have not yet had a profound influence on education’. Whether you’re in education, or business, or that large overlap in the middle, it’s worth considering all 10. Which we do here.
4. Top tip: Let’s get dramatic
There’s more than one would-be or once-was dramatist in the e-learning profession (since there’s about 10 in Kineo). What can dramas and narrative bring to e-learning? Cammy Bean (not a drama queen in real life) shares a tip. Get it here.
