Welcome to the new decade. Alright, some will argue that the new decade doesn’t start until 2011, but let’s not fall out over these things – there’s too much to be getting on with.
2010’s going to be a big year for learning – watch with awe as everything speeds up, breaks apart and becomes open source – or at least, some of those things. Find out more about what we expect to see in this month’s market update.
We rounded-off 2009 nicely with a project for HP in the US, which was certainly an example of how to speed things up, from first contact to delivery in less than 28 days. Find out more below.
And of course, it wouldnt be January without Learning Technologies. It’s just two days until the biggest e-learning show in the UK, and we’ve got plenty to share at stand 64. Closer to Las Vegas than London? We’re there too, at ASTD this week. Why not go to both? Who said January’s about cutting back…
Hope your 2010 is off to a great start.
***Dates for your diary***
- Learning Technologies: Jan 27th—28th
- Olympia London – See us at stand 64
- ASTD TechKnowledge: Jan 27th—29th
- Las Vegas Nevada – See us at booth 407
- Webinar; Exploring the Open Source LMS option: Feb 25th, 10 CST / 4pm UK
1. Case study: HP Total Customer Experience e-learning
When Hewlett Packard needed urgent help with a project in trouble, they called us. Good call, it turns out – for us and HP. We went from that call to an engaging e-learning solution in less than 28 days. Our client at HP said it was ‘the best vendor experience I’ve ever had’, which is so flattering some of us even blushed a little.
2. Learning Technologies 2010: Preview and planner
Kineo is sponsoring and will present at Learning Technologies again this year, and here we share a quick preview of what we'll be doing at the show.
Learning Technologies is the must-attend event for e-learning and blended learning in the UK. This year's show is on 27th and 28th January at the Olympia 2 in London. More details here.
It looks to be a great show this year as always, with plenty of interesting speakers at the conference and lots of free events and seminars on the floor. You can find us on stand 64.
We’ll be doing two seminars at the show:
Wednesday January 27th
Free seminar: Nikon case study: Moodle and e-learning
Theatre 1 : 13.45—14.15
Kineo and Nikon will share insights from their recent, highly-successful product knowledge e-learning and Moodle portal collaboration.
Thursday January 28th
Free seminar: Performance management and e-learning
Theatre 6 (downstairs) : 11.15—11.45
What role can e-learning play in making performance management happen? We’ll share examples from EMI, M&S and many more.
We’ll also run a series of 15-minute quick-hit sessions throughout both days at our stand. Find out what we’ll be talking about and download a free planner here.
Don’t forget to visit the stand for a chance to win a free iPod Touch – as if such promotional tactics were the kind of thing to sway the likes of you…
It is the first month of a new decade. Here at Kineo we have been doing some strategic thinking (and a little crystal-ball gazing) on what changes the next 12 months will see. In this month’s update we share five e-learning predictions for 2010.
4. Top tips: Shot of theory on elaboration
When teaching someone a new fact or task, it’s best to start simple and then drill down into the more complicated content. But far too often e-learning dives right in to the deep end, overwhelming learners too soon with detail.
How can you structure content so learners can access and make sense of it from the start?
Find out more in our top tips on elaboration theory, where we, um, elaborate on this.
5. Kineo survey: Completion stats benchmarking
It's often been said that a course is only as good as its implementation. Completion levels from the LMS don't tell the whole story about successful implementation, but they're a key part of it.
So how are you doing against your peers in terms of completion stats? Take five minutes to share your experiences with us. We'll include the results (anonymously) in an upcoming article for our site, so this will help you to benchmark against your peers.
Take the survey.
6: Authoring tool review: Xerte open source tool
It’s open source, but do you get what you pay for, or more? We take a look at Xerte, the open source tool from Nottingham University this month.Read our review here.
7. Kineo news: Upcoming webinars; See you in Vegas; New year – new site; Now hiring
We’re hitting 2010 pretty hard from the outset...
We’re running a series of Kineo Insights webinars through 2010. Here comes the first one:
February 25th: Exploring the Open Source LMS Option
4 PM UK / 10AM CST / 11AM EST
With some prominent guest speakers, we’ll discuss what open source means, what the options are, and where to go from here in making a decision.
Find out more and register here.
March 4th: How corporates are making use of Moodle Open Source LMS
2 PM UK / 8AM EST
This webinar, associated with Learning Technologies, will explore how the corporate space is using and winning with Moodle. We’ll look at a range of case studies. Places are free but limited. Mail us at email@example.com to register.
See you in Vegas: ASTD TechKnowledge Jan 27th—29th
While we have the glamour of rainy London for Learning Technologies in the UK this week, our colleagues in the US have to settle for Las Vegas.
If you’re going out there for ASTD TechKnowledge from Jan 27th – 29th, join Kineo at booth 407 and see what we’re up to in e-learning design and corporate Moodle, and learn more about My Kineo. Because it’s Vegas, we may throw in a show tune or two. Apologies in advance.
Find out more about this event here.
New year, new site
We've just refreshed the Kineo website (that’s our idea of a relaxing Christmas) and we’re keen to get your feedback. So if you've got two more minutes, let us know what you think. We're planning a more substantial refresh later in 2010, so it'd be great to get your thoughts.
We’re continuing to grow our team in the UK and the US. We’re looking for passionate, creative, enthusiastic people to join us as:
- Learning designers
- Project managers and co-ordinators
- Sales consultants
- Technical producers
