1. New Report: Blended Learning
This month we’re bringing you a free report on the state of blended learning today, in partnership with training providers, The Oxford Group.
The report is the culmination of our recent webinars and survey into how blends are being utilised by organisations across the globe in the current day and age. In addition to providing a background to the research, the report explores the current use, challenges and best practices. The report also highlights 10 Tips for L& D professionals wanting to make the most of blended learning.
Get the report here.
2. Totally Totara: Free user group event on 18 july
We’re hosting our third dedicated event for Totara LMS users on July 18th in London. It’s completely free to attend and provides users with insight and training on the current version, real world lessons from existing users and a heads-up on what’s coming in the future development roadmap.
With the new version 2.4 including exciting additions such as Mozilla’s Open Badges and the rise of the Tin Can API, there promises to be some interesting debate on the day as well as a host of case studies and useful information to digest and take away.
Find out more and reserve your free place here.
3. Top Tip: Scroll it up
For years, web design and the learning design world chanted this mantra: “no scrolling, no scrolling.”
We were told to avoid the scroll bar at all costs. But things have changed. The scroll bar is back and proving to be an effective means of accessing and exploring the rich world of the web. And yet learning designers have continued to resist the scroll bars’ come hither advances. We’re ready to change all that...
Find out why we think scrolling is perfectly fine, here.
4. Market Update: Bluff your way through L& D
It’s fair to say that there are a number of surveys that do the rounds within the learning and development industry. So how do you know which ones are relevant to you? And which ones should you read first? This month we explore a new survey of surveys which has done the hard work for us and reveals ten key findings for L& D to digest.
Find out what they are here.
5. LT Summer Forum: Event review and slides
Last month we were part of the first ever Learning Technologies Summer Forum in London. The event showcased the very latest innovations including our Adapt framework for multi-device learning and the latest version of Totara LMS. We also hosted a packed seminar entitled ‘From ADDIE men to Mad Men: why learning needs to be more like marketing’ and we’re pleased to share a recording of that session here.
But so much else happened besides, we thought we’d bring a full review of the show here.
6. Upcoming events: Totara User Group, Learnx, Learning Live

Adapt Elearning Framework – Open Source Project
City & Guilds and Kineo held a series of open meetings last week to discuss open sourcing our award winning Adapt elearning authoring framework. Adapt produces elearning content that responsively adapts intelligently to screen size so that a single version will work on multiple devices from smartphones to tablets to desktops. There was a lot of interest from a wide variety of educational, public sector and private sector organisations in supporting the project.
We are currently putting together a suggested plan to take this exciting project forward and will be holding further meetings in the coming months. Our vision is to create, as a community, a free, open source elearning authoring tool that produces responsive content i.e. a single version that works across multiple devices.
If you would like to contribute or support the Adapt project please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
