As elearning providers, we’re slightly biased as to why we think it's so great. But there’s no denying that it has plenty of advantages over face-to-face training.
Key advantages of elearning over traditional face-to-face training
For one thing, with elearning you can ensure consistency on a global scale, confident in the belief that everyone has had the same experience. It also suits a modern workforce, particularly when delivered in HTML5 to work cross-device and with added gamification.
Microlearning is growing in relevance and elearning is perfect for this, as it can be chunked into bite-sized pieces and returned to frequently for better retention. As people move away from a model of cramming knowledge to pass a test and then forgetting it after a short period, elearning has the advantage that it can be used directly at the point of need.
If elearning takes the trump card, does that mean the end for face-to-face elearning?
We're not endorsing the complete removal of face-to-face training from the world. Undeniably, there’s some things face-to-face training just is better for, such as learning a physical skill, like knife skills for a chef.
But learners will get much more out of a blend that combines both digital and face-to-face training so that they have a holistic experience that fits into the modern definition of learning. Download our guide to designing blended learning.
