Shaping the future of learning

Coming along to the Learning Technologies show on 12th-13th February? ‘Europe’s leading workplace learning event’ brings together the leaders in learning for a two-day conference and exhibition, showcasing the latest trends and ideas around learning at work.

We’ve selected a few of our picks from the conference and seminar sessions to help you stay up to date and make the most of a packed agenda.

Day one

11.15 Workflow learning – conference session

Learning in the flow of work is not a new idea. Mediaeval apprentices learned partly through instruction, partly through work. So how does it apply to the modern workforce - and how do you assess that work?

Anthony Williams, Global Learning Design Manager - Costa Coffee
Bob Mosher, CEO/Chief Learning Evangelist - APPLY Synergies & Co-Founder of the 5 Moments of Need Methodology

11.45 What can L&D learn from marketing? – seminar session

Marketing has long relied on techniques that engage, capture interest and keep people coming back – so are there any ideas that L&D can take from their marketing colleagues?

1.55pm 21st Century learning – conference session

The term ‘blended learning’ has been around for 20+ years and despite changing technology and a constant flow of new trends in L&D, the concept has never really gone away. But what’s next for learning?

Hannah Gore, Talent Development Manager - Solera Holdings
Helena King, Head of Online Learning - TES Institute
Nigel Paine, Managing Director - Nigel Paine.Com ltd

3.50pm Stakeholder buy-in – conference session

Building a culture of learning in organisations has become a top priority for L&D professionals today. But this is just an impossible dream if you can’t engage the many different stakeholders involved.

Julie Drybrough, Director - fuchsia blue Ltd
Mirjam Neelen, Learning Advisory Manager - Accenture
Connie Malamed, Independent LX Designer/International Speaker/Author - Connie Malamed Consulting

Day two

11.15am Learning analytics – conference session

It’s almost impossible to ignore the rising importance of analytics in L&D. Data is becoming the new currency across modern businesses today and learning is now realising the opportunity that it can present.

Craig Kaye, Learning and Development Advisor - Mitie Group Plc
Guy Wilmshurst-Smith, Head Network Rail Training - Network Rail
Derek Mitchell, Insight & Analytics across Customer Services, Operational Efficiency & Employee Development – Tesco

12.30pm The Skill Perception Gap – seminar session

Kineo’s own Jez Anderson takes us through Learning Insights research with a particular focus on how employees and leaders have a difference perception of the skills needed to succeed in the future.

12.40pm Women in learning – conference session

Research shows women are twice as likely as men to have administrative support roles – and half as likely to have leadership positions – in L&D as men. We need to support women in building their careers – so how can employers do that more effectively?

Kate Graham, Head of Content - Fosway Group
Sharon Claffey Kaliouby, .Masie Fellow & Advisor - The Learning CONSORTIUM

3.50pm Games and learning – conference session

The term gamification is now commonplace in learning, but still has its detractors. Can badges really build engagement? Does the psychology actually support the learning process?

Stuart Pedley-Smith, Head of Learning - Kaplan
Scott Anderson, Designer - RBS
Caroline Black, Design Manager – RBS
